Needle Point Embroidery
Punch needle embroidery has a long history first being documented in ancient Egypt. Most cultures have a variety of punch needle embroidery including Japaneese Bunka, Russian Igolochkoy, and is related to wool rug hooking from England and the United States.
All punch needle work uses a hollow needle that you use with thread or yarn to punch rows of loops from the back side to the front side of fabric. The lecture will focus on miniature punch needle embroidery done with embroidery floss.
Punch needle embroidery is an art form on its own or it can be used to enhance traditional applique with both wool and quilting cottons. One very nice feature of this type of work is that it is very forgiving! Most “mistakes” are easily corrected. While you can spend a lot of money on all of the “correct” supplies I will give you many ideas for low cost equally successful options.
There will be a table set up so that you can try it yourself before the meeting!
Sherry will also bring Punch Needle related items and hand dyed fabric for sale!!!
