Thinking Outside the Block Brings Blocks and History

Take a look at the blocks that were brought to guild last month. There were plenty of interesting facts and a few surprises. Marsha talked about the many blocks found in attics that may be what early quilters used as their block archives. They would have them as a reference to make or share. Joan and Mary gave us some very interesting information on the Morning Star block and it's ties to Indian folk lore. Ann brought information of block pattern names and some history and dates that certain blocks became popular.

Donna displays a Rocky Road to California block
Ann shows an antique Garden of Eden with it's original paper templates

Show and Tell had some great quilts to see.  Joan brought a quilt that has a lot of special meaning to her and her family. The blocks were made by Frances and Joan. Joan then put them in a quilt around an angel center and Marsha quilted it.  Mary showed a darling purse and Ann showed a new twist on the sewing kits from  the March meeting. Donna was glad to see two more donation quilts.
