It's all RED for Valentine's Day!

Red, White and Love in the air!
The February meeting will be held on Valentine's Day, February 14 at 7:00 pm in the O. E. Calisle building  on the corner of Hill St. and Orange Ave. in Farmersville. The program will feature Redwork. The members will learn how to stitch Redwork patterns onto white fabric blocks. If you've never tried this delightful way to make a unique red and white quilt - this is will be a wonderful way to start.

Those planning on attending should bring:
one - 12  1/2" white or muslin pre cut fabric block
red embroidery floss
embroidery needle
scissors
embroidery hoop to fit a 12 1/2" block

There will be Redwork patterns at the meeting or you may bring your own.
Don't forget to bring red and white fat quarters for the Fat Quarter drawing and any
Sew and Tell items you want to share.

As someone once said, " Oh, if it be to choose and call thee mine, love, thou art every day my Valentine!"
As a quilter would say, " Oh, if it be to choose quilting or call thee mine, I'll choose quilting everytime!"
See you on Valentine's day!!

2011 January Baltimore Beauties

The January meeting featured a slide presentation from Ann on Baltimore quilts. The stories of the quilts and the quilters behind them, came alive as each slide was shown. The history of the quilts, symbolism, settings and borders were each presented with many examples shown. These types of quilts were made in the Baltimore, Maryland area during the 1840's and 50's. They are heavily appliqued and embroidered. Many of the designs are seen frequently in the quilts and all made by different women. As we know -  quilters still like to share patterns today!
Ann also brought examples of several Baltimore Album blocks she had made. At the end of the presentation everyone had an opportunity to try folding flowers out of fabric. These flowers are some of the different kinds featured in many of the Baltimore Album quilts.
