March 2011 Meeting Blooms With Strip Pieced Quilts

Our March meeting will be held March 13, at 7:00 pm in the O. E. Carlisle Civic Center. The program will feature ways to use 2 1/2 inch strips to piece quilts. Since strip piecing is a popular way of making quilts this meeting will be just perfect to start a new project, finish a UFO or learn some new ways to use all those extra strips we sometimes have. Bring your patterns and ideas with you.
Check out the Quiltville link to the right, under LINKS, for great ideas and directions.

Supplies to bring:

  • sewing machine with extension cord
  • basic sewing supplies
  • 2 1/2" strips
optional supplies:
  • iron and pressing board

A Gift for Donnita

Several months ago Donnita's home was destroyed by a fire. We have had the opportunity to work with Donnita in getting our news articles published in the Farmersville Times and wanted to help her and her family. The Blue Ribbon Quilt Shoppe kindly donated a quilt top and Marsha quilted it. Karen took the quilt home last guild meeting and finished the binding. Teena from Blue Ribbon Quilts, Joan, Karen and Ann presented the gift to Donnita along with a quilt made by Bonnie, Friday, March 2. There were tears and hugs all around when she opened each quilt. At the end of our visit Donnita told us that one of the things she regretted most was that all of her grandmother's quilts had burned in the fire.  We hope that Donnitta and her family find comfort each time they wrap one of the quilts around them.

Below are the pictures of the quilts as they were given to Donnita.

February Meeting Highlights

Valentines and flowers greeted the members of the guild as they came to sign in for the meeting. Karen made sure that all of us had a Happy Valentine's Day. Monica brought cheese cake for refreshments and there was also red velvet cookies, finger foods and M&M's. All the participants began a red work project and learned the correct method of stitching the patterns. The perfect way to spend an evening!
On this Valentine's Day there was also a damsel in distress and
two great firemen that saved the day.
