BOM #3

Gayle sample of March the HST & April the floating boarder.
NOTE: you have to do the HST first to get the proper measurements for the floating boarder (there is a formula on Feb BOM)

Galye's finished BOM March & April

Magic 8 method
Makes 8 half square triangles (HST)
Above is the formula for making 8 HST.
I Used 4 3/4 Sq to get 2" HST
You might want to use a 5" square & trim to 2"
For 80 HST (yes you need that many!)
you need 9- 5" sq of both colors.
See video in google or ask JR

Hey everyone, I just wanted to provide you with the attached flyer and link so you can get information about the Charity Race coming up on April 6th.
The Quilt Guild will have a vendor booth again this year where we will be selling raffle tickets and giving out information about Quilt of Valor.
The Charity has been a great supporter of our efforts.  It’s a great event to bring your family to.  There is no cost to register for and participate in the walk or the run.
All veterans receive a free BBQ lunch.  This year it will be located behind the Wylie High School on 544, and not in the city park.  If the weather is bad, they are moving it
All inside the school – so come regardless of the weather J  Please let me know if you have questions.

Community Service QOV news:
Good Morning Ladies, wanted to updated you on QOV Sew day last Feb.
Each of you contributes in some way to the efforts and it is very much appreciated J
Barb

The final summary is in! We are well on our way toward 300,000 service members and veterans being awarded a Quilt of Valor—one quilt and one recipient at a time—thanks to YOU!
You also ‘counted what counts’ and here is the final summary
  • Over 4,100 of you—more than double of last year—volunteered to sew, quilt (longram or machine quilt), cut, press, and beyond!
    • About 3,000 represent almost one-third of the current QOVF membership
    • About 1,000 represent first-time volunteers
  • You represented the entire United States as well as Australia and Canada
  • The final ‘counts’ reported as of  February 19:
    • Tops: 617.5
    • Quilts: 276
    • QOVF Block Drive Blocks (Floating Ohio Star): 3,853
    • Other Blocks: 4,179
In just one day, you created about 1,297 comforting and healing Quilts of Valor for America’s finest service members and veterans.
For inspiring and fun comments from NSD participants; the list of prize winners; and our sew day supporters that provided almost $5,000.00 in prizes.
You will not want to miss participating in next year’s National Sew Day on February 1, 2020!
Contact Special Events Coordinator at events@QOVF.org for more information.

FYI:
What is a scant 1/4” seam? There are occasions when you sew two pieces together, carefully sewing ¼ from the edge of your fabric and find that the finished size after pressing the seams toward the darker fabric is slightly smaller than it should be.  When piecing a quilt, the perfect seam allowance needs to be a SCANT quarter inch, rather than a true ¼”. This is because the fold of the fabric over the seam allowance can shrink the finished measurement of the piece just a bit. To get a “scant ¼” seam, sew a couple threads narrower (closer to the cut edge) than a true quarter inch if needed. You can always test your seams using a couple of scraps before you begin.

Our Program for April is titled "Now is the Time"

Guild Members bring in the most dreaded, buried, disliked or pain in the backside UFO (even if it's just a block you tried and couldn't figure out),
come prepared to share 2 things they are unhappy about or hard for them to do, and what drew them to the project in the first place.

Summary  UFO....what sparked interest and 2 things they dread or dislike

Purpose Hopefully someone else will either have already completed or possibly have a handy hint for doing it faster or easier

The Goal to have a UFO show and tell in May

Thank you,
