January 2013 Hawaii Here We Come!

Ann presented a program on Hawaiian quilt blocks. The weather was cold and rainy that night but, the guild members were able to enjoy a small part of the islands as they learned about the history and techniques of these bright colored quilt blocks. Members made the breadfruit block. According to some folklore it is the first block that is taught. This tradition suggests that when you complete a breadfruit block your home will always have plenty of food on your table. Ann taught how to fold the fabric and cut it with the pattern. Then the design was basted onto a background piece. The final step was learning the techniques of appliqué.

Christmas 2012

Snowmen was chosen as the theme for a frosty Guild Christmas party. Marsha was the chairman and with Jackie, Donna and Ann they planned an evening of fun. Jackie decorated the tables with plenty of smiling snowmen. She even made snowmen place holders, created from ornaments, for everyone. Marsha and Donna made sock snowmen for each of the members as a keepsake. The food was pot luck and delicious with plenty of turkey,  ham and all the fixings. Monica outdid herself with fabulous cheescakes. After dinner Ann read the story about Mrs. Right as gifts were traded around in the direction of the words left and right. At the end of the story everyone had a different gift to open. The last event was the ornament exchange. Each person brought a handmade ornament to exchange. Numbers were found at each place on the table. When your number came up you could choose a gift or go and steal one from someone else. There were so many beautiful ornaments. Door prizes, the December block of the Month and Sew and Tell were also part of the evening.

Postcards For October

Becky taught the magic of quilted postcards for October. It's the perfect month to cast a spell over loved ones and friends. Members brought fabric, and notions to create lovely ideas to send. It was frightfully easy and goolishly great to do. Everyone got busy cutting, ironing and trimming out their unique and artful creations.
An added treat was the demonstration of a new product. This product uses recycled plastic for the cutting matts. Seal and deep cuts back after cutting by using a plastic scraper. The company is called Cut It Out! It's a great name for a good product.

Becky begins our program.
