Community Service Quilt Time

This year's community service quilt meeting was changed to a Saturday. Besides the service quilts there was also a Sew and Tell time. Everyone brought snacks and there was fabric flying all around the room as members measured, cut fabric, cut batting and put the quilt sandwiches together. Over thirty quilts were done this year. That is almost double what we accomplished last year. This years quilts will go to Hinton Home in Farmersville. Many of the quilts were completed before the meeting by Joan, Pat, donna and Debi. Their help really made a difference. Those that came were able to take quilts home to tie or machine quilt later.

Below is a quick show of the quilts that were finished.

July Brings Debra Hager

The July meeting was held on July 10. Debra Hager came and taught the members how to do some fun raw edge applique. The project was quick and easy. Debra made a darling flower in a pot design just for us. Many of us know Debra from the Cranky Peddler sewing group. She is an expert in many areas of quilt techniques and history. Her creativity and cheerful personality made for a great meeting!

Happy 3rd Birthday!

Flowers and butterflies, games and fun, cake and friends. What else could we ask for during the guilds 3rd birthday celebration! The planning for this party was done by Jackie and Ann. Guild members donated 12 1/2" blocks and Jackie made adorable table runners used for decorations.

Ann and Jackie - the birthday committee.

Next up for fun was a relay race made just for quilters.  Three teams competed in finishing a pin cushion. The first leg of the "race" was the sewing machine station. One member from each team sewed two four patches together then sewed them together leaving an opening for a filler. In the next station came the pressing and the the filling, which was sand. Team members then closed the cushion, by hand sewing, so the sand would not leak out. The last step was to sew a button in the center on both the top and bottom.  The winning team was team 1! They were Marsha, Joan, Debra and Monica.

All set up for the relay race.

Food and friends are always the best part of a party. The cake was cut and the table was spread with fruit, chips and dip, cheese and crackers and vegetables and dip. There was laughter and talking throughout the room while we filled our plates and nibbled on the goodies.

Donna, Elizabeth, Carolyn and Karen snack and talk.

Carolyn, Karen and Becky have the munchies.

Debi, Donna, Debra and Marsha relax and enjoy.

Jackie and Monica chat and Bonnie tastes the cake.

Joan and Pat are eyeing the next table.

The second part of the evening was an auction. Each person received a sheet with quilt related questions. Points were given for the answers. These points were then used to bid for the auction items. What a wild time! Bidding was fast and items were"sold" in just a few seconds. Most of the items in the auction were donated by friends to the guild. They included: The Quilt Asylum, Plano Sewing Center, Blue Ribbon Quilt Shoppe, Fiber Circle and Texas Quilt Works. Both Bonnie and Marsha donated machine quilting. Carolyn and Ann sewed a few projects, while Bonnie and Joan donated other items for the auction.  Ann was the auctioneer.

Let the bidding begin!

Marsha wins lots of needles and needle grabber.
